Some of the most visited of all the museums in Debrecen include the Ferenc Medgyessy Memorial, the László Holló and the Literary Museum, where literally thousands of artefacts are to be found.

Many folklore exhibits await visitors to the Déri Museum, which is situated just behind the Protestant Great Church and on the Déri Tér itself. This attraction offers a true insight into all aspects of life, ranging from those who once lived around the Piszta area, to the most affluent and influential residents of Debrecen, right up to the 19th century.

Highlights at the Déri Museum include a number of mythical interpretations, a nature display celebrating native Hungarian flora and fauna, many important historic artefacts, and various paintings, created by local artists. The entrance to Debrecen's extremely popular Déri Museum is especially grand and boasts no less than four beautiful bronzes, sculpted by Hungary's acclaimed artist, Ferenc Medgyessy. Inside visitors will also be treated to some truly ancient Egyptian treasures and some important religious paintings of Christ.

Situated next to the Debrecen Plaza and well connected by the city's network of trams, the Ferenc Medgyessy Memorial Museum is situated along the Péterfia Utca and dedicated to one of the country's most accomplished sculptors, Ferenc Medgyessy (1881 - 1958). Many of his best works are now owned by this gallery. Ferenc Medgyessy was a local sculptor, who lived in this city for many years and once spent much time in Florence studying the creations of Michelangelo. This memorial exhibition is often referred to as the 'Town House' and is worth a look if you have some time on your hands.

The László Holló Memorial Museum is located on the Holló László Sétány and within easy reach of Debrecen city centre. This complex covers around 2.5 acres / 1 hectare and features an appealing cottage, which was once the home of acclaimed Hungarian artist László Holló (1887 - 1976). Today, the cottage houses a collection of original works by Holló himself, while outside is an interesting garden, filled with statues.

The Debrecen Post Museum is situated across the Déri Tér and close to the Déri Museum, being situated along the Delizsánsz Kiállítóterem. Known locally in Hungarian as the Postamúzeum, this insightful attraction fully documents the history of Hungary's postal system and various aspects of telecommunications. Philatelists will be pleased to discover a large collection of stamps.

Located along the Borsos József Tér, the Literary Museum of Debrecen sits on the northern side of the city centre and is well connected by regular buses. As well as housing a series of visiting exhibitions, you will also find displays relating to the 1890 literary circle of Csokonai and almost 50,000 different artefacts and documents, along with some paintings by local Hungarian artists.
